A meeting of the Committee on Insulation and Di-electrics will be held at the Engineering School on Friday and Saturday, November 13 and 14, for the leading scientists, chemists, and physicists from the leading Universities and electrical companies in the United States. The meeting will be to investigate and study the fundamental effect of electric potential on insulating materials, and if possible, to determine why such materials break down in use, when in trials and laboratory tests they appear satisfactory.
Besides many engineers representing electric companies from the Eastern half of the United States, many university professors and scientists will attend. Among these are: Professor V. Karapet-off of Cornell University, Dr. J. B. Whitehead chairman, from John Hopkins, and also H. L. Curtis of the Bureau of Standards in Washington.
President Lowell will greet the committee on Friday, November 13 at 9.30 o'clock in Pierce Hall 110, and President K. T. Compton of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology will give a scientific address at the Faculty Club.
During the two days that the committee is here, visits will be made to the physics, and chemical laboratories, and high voltage laboratory, where the new motor generator set of 200 kilovolt amperes has been installed. The motor is unique, being built specially for the Engineering School by Westinghouse, with a frequency range from 20 to 75 cycles, and sine wave under all conditions.
