PORTER STATES RUSSIA IS "LAND OF HOPE" IN TALK

Says Russians Do Not Claim Perfection for Their System--They Consider It Superior to Any Other

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

"Hopes for the restoration of any form of capitalism in Russia are unfounded," Paul Porter, Field Secretary of the League for Industrial Democracy, declared at a meeting of the Harvard Liberal Club last night. "The Russians do not claim perfection for their system," Porter said, "but they consider it so far superior to any other that abandonment of it never considered. Despite the serious commodity shortage at the present time. Russia has in general fared remarkably well throughout the depression, especially in regard to unemployment. Russia is the land of hope, and the people expect to achieve the highest standard of living, anywhere in the world within a generation."

Norman Thomas and Senator F. G. Norris are expected to be the next two speakers at the Liberal Club and members of the club will be given preference at these meetings, as capacity crowds are anticipated. Membership in the club is open to all students in the University.
