TWO CHANGES IN SWIMMING CONTESTS ARE ANNOUNCED

Relay is to be 400 Yards and New 220-Yard Swim Added

Announcement was made yesterday of two important changes in the regular program of events for all of the University swimming meets this year. In addition new 16-foot diving boards have been installed at the pool in the New Indoor Athletic Building.

Moving up the relay race from its former length of 200 yards to 400 yards constituted the first change. The second consisted of adding an entirely new event, the 220-yard free-style swim. The effect of these changes will be to increase to some extent the length of the University swimming meets.

The new diving boards are longer than the old ones and were installed in order to conform to a new requirement of the Intercollegiate Swimming Association. The purpose of the new ruling was to require a board which would give more of a lift than did the former 14-foot ones. This will add considerably to the grace and variety of diving.
