DUNSTER HOUSE LIBRARY IS GIVEN 400 RARE BOOKS

It was announced yesterday by the library committee of Dunster House that a gift of approximately 400 volumes from the library of the late William Roscoe Thayer '81, well known biographer and historian, have been given to the Dunster House library by Mrs. Thayer. The books include works on the history and literature of Italy and the United States, and are of great value not only scholastically, but for their value of association with famous men of the early part of the twentieth century.

Among the most interesting books in the collection are six large volumes of pictures of European paintings and sculpture gathered by Thayer while he was teuring Europe just after graduating from Harvard. He later had these pictures bound into volumes which he prized highly.

Also there is a complete set of the Harvard Historical Studies, some of the early volumes of which have been out of print for many years and are now considered very valuable.

Two other gifts have also been announced by the library committee. The first, an anonymous gift, is a first edition of Pepys Diary, which is of great worth.

C. J. Livingood '88 of Cincinnati, Ohio, has given the Dunster House Library 15 volumes on Petrarch, consisting of early editions and a few later essays. They are all very rare, and are considered valuable.
