FIRST SQUAD TRIMS SECONDS 19 TO 0 IN LONG SCRIMMAGE

Catches Two Forwards from Huguley in Great Style--Schereschewsky and Crickard on Team A

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Devoting over half the time in a three hour workout to a scrimmage with the seconds, Coach Horween yesterday sent his band of gridiron hopefuls through the stiffest practice they have experienced this year. After more than an hour and a half of stiff opposition from the scrubs the first squad had piled up 19 points to the seconds' none.

Coach Horween shifted his men around freely, using the A backfield behind the B line and the B backfield behind the A line. The A backfield had two new men added to it while the second quartet also presented a somewhat changed appearance. Crickard and Schereschewsky were both moved up as understudies to the Junior backs that have been monopolizing the first team backfield posts so far. Crickard alternated with Devens at right half, while Schereschewsky changed off with White at fullback. The two new arrivals are also members of the class of 1932, so that six Juniors now constitute the first team ball carrying squad.

The rearranged B backfield had Huguley at quarter. Batchelder and Forbes at the halves, and Record at full. There was also a C quartet with Putnam calling signals. Brinkley and Greely pairing off at the halves and Fullam at full.

Batchelder, playing behind the A line, scored two of the three touchdowns during the afternoon. In an 80 yard march down the field Batchelder did most of the carrying, ripped off two 20 yard runs and finally carried the ball over on a four yard slash off tackle. Huguley missed the try for the extra point.

After several exchanges of punts the first team had the ball on its own 25 yard stripe. Then followed in rapid succession a 25-yard Huguley to Harding forward pass and a Forbes to Batchelder lateral. Huguley and Harding then teamed up to get off another forward and then Batchelder finally carried the ball over on a 4 yard thrust.

Later on in the afternoon, with the C backfield in, the first team scored again when Greely got loose on an off tackle play and ran ten yards for a score.

The work of Harding was especially encouraging, since he was being anxiously watched by the coaches to see whether he was up to his old standard. He caught the two passes from Huguley in great fashion and stood the scrimmage as well as anybody.

Another end was added to the first squad during the afternoon when Richard Werner '33 was elevated from the seconds. He was a member of Coach French's Freshman team last fall. Coach Horween also announced that two members of the first squad had been sent down to Coach Knox for more experience
