The 1934 fall athletic season will be officially opened tomorrow evening at 7.30 o'clock in the Living Room of the Harvard Union with a special athletic meeting. W. J. Bingham '16, director of Athletics, Arnold Horween '21, head football coach, and B. H. Ticknor '31, captain of the University football team, will address the assembled first year men on athletics and physical education at Harvard.

The Freshman football candidates will gather at the new locker building for equipment at 1.30 o'clock Monday afternoon, and practice will commence at 2.30 o'clock, under the guidance of Coach A. E. French '29, who was captain and star halfback of the 1928 eleven which defeated Yale, 17 to 0. It will be French's second year directing the first year team.

Freshmen out for other sports will also be called out by their respective coaches in the near future. Cross country candidates will meet Coach Jaakko Mikkola at 1.30 o'clock Monday at the old locker building. He will also supervise fall track candidates, since Head Coach E. L. Farrell is trainer of the University football team. For six consecutive years the Crimson first year distance runners have overwhelmed their Yale opponents.

To satisfy the physical training requirement, there are numerous other elective sports which may be chosen by members of 1934. Among these are lacrosse, rowing, tennis, swimming, handball, fencing, equitation, soccer, or hiking. A physical inspection will be held for all entering students, and those who fail take special corrective exercises. Competition for Freshman football manager, which satisfies the physical training requirement, will open with a meeting at the H. A. A. Monday at 11 o'clock.
