A fierce rally in the last half of the ninth inning scoring seven runs enabled Brown to overcome a six run lead and turn what had appeared to be a bad defeat into a victory in yesterday's ball game with the Crimson at Providence. The teams went into the last frame with the score board showing 8 to 2 in Harvard's favor but the final count gave the Bruins the game 9 to 8.
All during the game there were occasional showers but as Brown went to bat for the last time the rain fell in a downpour. Play was not interrupted, however, and the Bruin's hitting streak kept on with Harvard handicapped by a wet and a slippery ball.
Two errors by Nugent cost the Crimson nine the victory. Chaiklin was the first man up and he singled between third and short. McGinn, batting for Sondheim, came to the plate next and he also hit safely advancing Chaiklin to third. With an excellent opportunity offered for a double play, Nugent let Harris's grounder pass between his legs and the runner on third scored. Salvonen singled scoring McGinn.
Freedman Hits Double
After Rasmussen fied out Crane was walked and the bases were loaded: Then Nugent made his second error on a ball hit by Caulkins and the batter went to second while Harris and Silvonen tallied. Captain Freedman was the next man up and he hit a double scoring the two runners and tying the score. A moment later he brought in the winning run when Smith hit another double.
In the first inning, Moulton, the Brown right fielder was hit on the point of the elbow by a pitched ball and sustained a possible fractured arm.
Today the Crimson team goes, to Worcester to meet the Boly Cross team. Devens will be on the mound for the Crimson today.
