In accordance with the enlarged quarters which will be at his disposal in the new Athletic Building, Physical instructor N. W. Fradd, under whose care all those are placed who are physically deficient, announced recently plans for the coming year offering extensive opportunities to members of the University and Faculty.
During the past year, 30 percent of the incoming class were required to take on special exercise. Of those who later fulfilled all the requirements of the University, 40 percent asked to be reinstated. At the present time, upper classmen and graduate students are admitted to the classes on request, and in 1928, when this arrangement was first made, the cramped rooms in Hemenway were swamped.
In conjunction with coach Harold Ulen, swimming team mentor, all aspirants for the Harvard swimming team will be put in Fradd's classes, for training and conditionng prior to the actual start of the season. This is an arrangement which has proved extremely successful at Yale, and for this reason the system has been extended to Harvard.
An innovation in Fradd's routine will be the introduction of Faculty classes which will be open to all members of the University Faculty. In this connection special locker and shower room facilities have been built, an accommodation that has been hitherto impossible. Fradd also stated that he expects to move into his offices at the Gymnasium sometime in the next few days.
