UNIVERSITY, JAYVEE OARSMEN LEAVE FOR REGATTA AT ITHACA

Crews Row Down to Basin in Practice on Charles -- Workout at Cornell Planned by Whiteside

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Rowing on the Charles for their last practice here before leaving for Ithaca, the Harvard first and second eights had a light workout early yesterday afternoon. The two boats paddled down the river to the Basin at a stroke of 20, and rowed back again at a rate of about 28 strokes to the minute.

The Jayvees, with T. E. Armstrong '32 at stroke, seemed to be going better than they have all season, giving evidence of power behind their blades, and at the same time rowing smoothly. It is a better boat than that which rowed against Navy and Tech, which Coach Whiteside is taking to Cornell. Both crews, with J. E. Lawrence '31 and E. L. Millard '31 accompanying them as extra oarsmen, left yesterday afternoon at 4.30 o'clock.

Hope to Win

The Harvard eights go to Ithaca for their regatta with Cornell and Syracuse with great hopes behind them for a victory there. Should either crew win, it would bolster the Crimson chances against Yale on June 20 considerably. Coach Whiteside is also, in this regatta, looking forward to matching his crews with those of Syracuse, whose eights he has not faced since he left the Orange to coach the Crimson.

Coach Whiteside plans to have one practice on Lake Cayuga today, with possibly two more scheduled for tomorrow. The seatings of the two boats are as follows:

University--stroke, Colloredo-Mansfeld: 7, Captain Dickey; 6, Webster: 5, Johnson; 4, Hovey; 3, Erickson; 2, Hallowell: bow, Page," coxswain, Stebbins.

Jayvees--stroke, Armstrong; 7, Sturges; 6, Donaldson; 5, Veeder; 4, McKesson; 3, Buckley; 2, Swaim; bow, Robinson; coxswain, Holmes.

Second Freshman Race

This afternoon the Crimson 1933 second boat will race the Browne and Nichols oarsmen on the Charles. The contest is scheduled for about 5 o'clock.

The seating are as follows:

Harvard--stroke, J. A. Luetkemeyer '33; 7, S. H. Wolcott '33; 6, F. C. Welch '33; 5, A. L. Nickerson '33; 4, G. M. Bartol '33; 3, J. B. Ayer '33; 2, J. H. Leatherbee '33; bow, Christopher Birckhead '33; coxswain, T. H. Dickerson '33.

Browne and Nichols--stroke, Tarlton; 7, Tenney; 6, Whitehead; 5, McGuire; 4, Adams; 3, Johnson; 2, Bowse; bow, Dowes; coxswain, White
