At the zoo, the chimpanzee, and the orang-ou-tang smirk and grimace behind from bars Man, the spectator, sighs as he thinks of the wonders of evolution, and his own superior state.

At the Boston Arena, countless couples pivot and tremble in a din of sobbing cornets and wailing saxophones. . Hollow-eyed and ghastly in the lurid light, they dance day after day. A marathon is on. They must not stop. A pot of gold is at the end of this insane rainbow. Days elapse and a jaded couple poses exhausted and physically shattered before the eyes of a nation to receive a purse of money.

Man, the spectator, sighs as he thinks--not of the wonders of evolution. His thoughts recurr to the zoo, and the smirk of the chimpanzee appears suddenly ironical.
