UNIVERSITY LIGHTWEIGHT CREW WINS ON CHARLES

Maintaining a moderately fast stroke in spite of rough water and a high wind the first University 150-pound crew won a practice race with the second and third University lightweight boats yesterday afternoon. The race was held from the further end of the half-mile stretch to the Larz Andersen bridge, a distance approximating the regular Henley course of one and five-sixteenths miles.

The first boat was started two lengths behind the second crew and four lengths in the rear of the third shell. After a minute of rowing the first crew drew even with the second boat. These two shells soon left the third far behind and it definitely fell out of the running when it was forced to stop in order to avoid collision with a group of shells from M. I. T. The first crew held on to a lead of one length around the big bend in the Charles and extended this advantage to a length and a quarter before it crossed the finish line.
