BOWDOIN TO TEST POWER OF CRIMSON BASEBALL TEAM

Work in South Earned Him First Place Among Crimson Moundmen--Home Batting Order Unchanged

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Harvard's baseball team after a rather start in the South because of weak hitting will take the field against Bowdoin University at 4 o'clock this afternoon on Soldiers Field. This is the first game for the Brunswick team and not much is known about the nine that Coach Houser will send down but it is expected that Harvard will not find the going too hard.

Coach Mitchell will start Devens in the box against the Maine team with Batch-elder catching him. Devens, because of his good work in the South has earned the first position among the Harvard moundsmen and is on the way to repeat his work of last year when he pitched the Freshman team through a successful season. The Sophomore ace is high among the strike-out wizards of the East, having fanned 26 men in 23 innings so far this season.

Harvard Won Two Years Ago

Any one of four pitchers is liable to start for Bowdoin as the visiting coach has not made up his mind as to who will get the opening call. Cole was one of the hurlers who was in the box two years ago when Bowdoin played Harvard and he may start today. On that occasion he was one of the three pitchers who wilted under the Harvard attack. The Crimson won that games 21 to 3, combining 14 hits with seven Bowdoin miscues to pile up the score.

Coach Mitchell will stand pat on his batting order but it is likely that a change will be forthcoming in the near future if the Crimson batters do not produce more results. Harvard got splendid pitching on the Southern trip but was woefully weak at the plate and this accounted for most of the losses.
