The entire Harvard crew squad saw action during the April recess, when in addition to regular practice, Coach Whiteside raced his University eights on the Charles last Friday, and the 150-pounders rowed against the Kent School eight Wednesday on the Housatonic.
After two days' practice in Connecticut the Harvard University 150-pound boat, and the Kent eight, rowing over the Henley distance on the Housatonic river, raced to the finish in a dead heat. The time was 6 minutes, 35 seconds. The Kent oarsmen, who sail in June for the royal Henley regatta in England, drew abreast of the University lightweights after trailiing by half a length at the three-quarter mile mark.
The Second University 150-pound boat defeated the schoolboy seconds by a margin of three lengths in another race; making a time of six minutes, 43 seconds to the Kent oarsmen's six minutes, 54 seconds.
The Harvard University eight, rowing Friday on the Charles, finished a length and a half in front of the Jayvees, while the third boat trailed the Seconds by two lengths. The winners rowed the one and three-quarter mile course in slightly better than nine minutes and 30 seconds, and had the crew been allowed to raise its stroke it is probable that the Princeton time of 9:25, made a year ago, might have been equalled. The stroke, however, had been instructed to keep to a steady 31 up until the last minute of the race, when the crew's work in the final spurt showed superior power. The seating was as follows:
Crew B--Stroke, Colloredo-Mansfeld: 7, Dickey: 6, Webster: 5, Johnson: 4, Hallowell: 3, Erickson: 2, Swaim: bow, Page, coxswain, Stebbins
