Features of the first week of play were two masterful pitching exhibitions turned in by both Devens and MacHale. The former let down William and Mary with but four hits although losing, and went the entire route of the Catholic U. game, permitting only six scattered hits. MacHale was in fine fettle when he downed the Marines and in losing to Columbia on Saturday he gave only six hits during the eleven frames.
