Seven preliminary bouts of the University Wrestling Championships were run off in Hemenway Gymnasium yesterday afternoon. The matches, which were held in the wrestling room, were refereed by Coach Clifford Gallagher.
Preliminaries will continue every afternoon until Friday, when the finals will be held.
Although it is fairly certain that the regulars on the wrestling team will take the majority of the finals in their respective classes, an upset or two is not at all unexpected by the coach. For example, there is Captain P. O. Johnson '33 of the Freshman forces who has entered both the 135 and 145-pound events. With a record of 100 per cent fall-victories during the season in the 135-pound position, it is safe to say that he will give his more experienced opponents plenty of competition.
Of the 34 men still in the tournament, the following will wrestle today:
125-pound class: Goodwin vs. Malcolm Gibson 5E.S.
A. Palaza '31 vs. Gilbert.
135-pound class: P. O. Johnson '33 vs. C. E. Sophos '31.
145-pound class: D. A. Fuss '32 vs. P. O. Johnson.
H. R. Elsas '32, vs. Maurice Kurnitsky ocC.
155-pound class: D. D. Ruststein '30 vs. D. A. Fuss '32.
165-pound class: Hinckle vs. A. W. Kelsey 3G.
175-pound class: W. W. Mein '32, vs. E. S. Daniell Jr. 3L.
C. D. Newhart '31, vs. Jones.
Graves vs. Hinckle.
Unlimited class: Strauss vs. Alfred Kidder '33.
