COMBINE BATTING AND INFIELD CAGE SESSION

WOOD AND BATCHELDER WILL REPORT LATER

Harvard's baseball squad came the closest it has all year to having a regular game yesterday when Coach Mitchell combined his batting and infield practices during the two-hour drill in the Briggs cage.

Combining the two drills the batters had to run out their hits against a regular infield and once on base the runners got plenty of coaching and practice in working the double steal. This made it a hard day for the catchers who gave their arms the stiffest test they have had all season. The main interest still centers on the infield, however, where a lively tussle is being staged for all positions. Yesterday's first quartet had G. A. Donaldson '31 at first, E. A. Mays '32, at second, Captain F. E. Nugent '30, at short and H. L. Huxtable '30 at third. This combination seems well on the way to being the Crimson's starting infield in the first game of the year with B.U., except that W. B. Wood '32 will probably replace Donaldson at the initial sack.

The next two infields had several men at each post with some outfielders working out at some of them. B. H. Ticknor '31 and J. F. Carrol '31 were at first while J. J. Carver '30 and E. J. Des Roches '31 changed off at second. E. H. McGrath '31 alternated with J. H. O'Neill at short and R. J. Des Roches '32 and P. A. Ketchum '31 took turns at the hot corner.

Wood and S. L. Batchelder '31 have not yet reported after the hockey season but are expected this week. J. S. Rex '31 reported yesterday after concluding a successful season at guard on the basketball squad. The squad remains at its large proportions and will probably remain so until the final cut just before the Spring trip.
