Dr. K. T. Compton, now head of the Department of Physics, Princeton University, has been appointed President of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, it was announced by President S. W. Stratton following a meeting of the Corporation of the Institute late yesterday afternoon. Dr. Compton will take office next July, when Dr. Stratton will become Chairman of the Executive Committee and of the Corporation, a newly created executive position in which he will share the responsibilities of administration, but will be relieved of much of the detail.
