CRIMSON MERMEN MAKE GOOD SHOWING IN MEET SATURDAY
Wood and De Lima Take Second and Third in 500 in B. S. A. Events
W. S. De Lima '31. Benton Wood '33, and R. D. Fallon '33, Crimson mermen, showed up well in the B. S. A. Swimming meet Saturday night, although they took no first places. Wood and De Lima came in second and third in the national A. A. A. U. junior 500-yard championship and Fallon was third in the New England A. A. A. U. senior 50-yard event.
After winning the two heats, Wood and De Lima held the lead in the final for ten laps before being overtaken by George Shinney, B. B. C. Shinney was pushed to the record breaking time of 6 minutes and 7 3-5 seconds in order to beat the Harvard swimmers.
The showing of the Crimson men is significant because of the formation of a swimming team with the completion of the new gymnasium. It is expected that they will form the nucleus of the new squad.
