In the first meeting of the coxswain school, conducted by C. H. Pforzheimer '28, held last night in the Smith Hall common room, 36 coxswain candidates both Freshmen and upperclassmen, heard addresses by C. J. Whiteside, associate University coach. Pforzheimer, former University coxswain, and F. R. Sullivan '27, University 150-pound crew coach.
The importance of the coxswain's thorough familiarity with rowing technique was stressed, and the men were advised to watch the rowers at the Weld and Newell Boat Clubs, and to listen to the coaches remarks. The Freshman contingent of the school of coxswains will meet again in the Smith Hall common room next Tuesday at 7.15 o'clock, and the upperclassmen will hold a meeting in Newell Boathouse next Wednesday, at 3.15 o'clock.
