8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
In their fifteenth victory of the season on Saturday night the University of Pennsylvania quintet downed the Crimson five, 35 to 19. The crowd of 6000 in the Palestra at Philadelphia saw little good basketball, as the Quakers had not recovered their winning form after their defeat by Columbia earlier in the week, and Coach Wachter's charges were unable to develop an efficient scoring combination.
The score at half-time stood 9 to 4 in favor of Pennsylvania, but in 12 minutes of fast play at the start of the second half, Captain Lobley and McNiff, forwards; Peterson at center, and Tanseer and Magner, guards, scored heavily to run up a lead which none of the Crimson Combinations could overcome.
The Quakers fairly ran the Crimson basketeers off their feet in the latter part of the second half, displaying a degree of offensive play such as the University five has seldom come up against this season. A final spurt in the last few minutes clinched the victory. Score--Pennsylvania 35, Harvard 19. Goals--McNiff 3, Lobley 3, Peterson 2, Tanseer 2, Magner 2, Hale, Sander, Becker: Nido 2, Wenner, Mahady, Baskerville, Rex. Fouls--McNiff 2, Brodbeck 2, Peterson; Rauh 3, Rex 2, Wenner, Mahady. Referee--Meehan. Umpire--Hopkins. Time--Two 20-minute periods.
