8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
The Phi Delta Theta fraternity, fraternity touch-football champions of Brown University this year, defeated a strong Sigma Alpha Mu team, champions at Harvard this fall, by the score of 12 to 6. This game, held at Soldiers Field, was for the mythical touch football championship of New England.
The Harvard representatives started the game brilliantly, scoring a touchdown on the very first play when Nitkin intercepted a Brown lateral on his own 40 yard line, gained ten yards himself, and then threw a deceptive lateral to Bloom, who ran over for the score. This initial play was the outstanding feature of the game.
Brown, however, soon rallied to a touchdown, Moulton heaving a pass to Rogers, who converted the play to a score. The second and third periods were scoreless. The winning touchdown was finally made by Brown, when their identical scoring play, Moulton passing to Rogers, was again successful.
Harvard's fraternity champions had victory within their grasp on two occasions; once when Smith sprinted 80 yards and was finally caught on his five yard line, and later when Jacobson, on the same play, made a spectacular run of 80 yards, but was also caught on the five yard line.
The lineup: Score--Phi Delta Theta 12, Sigma Alpha Mu 6. Touchdowns--Rogers 2, Bloom. Referee--Frank Pickard, Harvard. Time--four periods, 20 plays each.
