USED CLOTHES AND BOOKS SOUGHT IN P. B. H. APPEAL

Philips Brooks House Association will begin its annual drive for castoff clothing today, under the general supervision of T. M. Hastings '33 and B. C. Meyer '32. The drive comes as a follow-up of the preliminary appeal for old clothes made by the Association earlier in the Fall, when 2000 odd burlap bags were placed in various throughout the University.

Each year for several years the Philips Brooks House Association has conducted two drives for discarded clothing, magazines, and books. The best of the clothing received is sent to settlement houses and other welfare organizations. Any textbooks received are placed in the textbook loan library maintained by the Association. Other books and magazines collected are sent to the Merchant Marine.

In between drives conducted by the Association, it was thought probable that large quantities of books, clothing, shoes, magazines, etc., are discarded by students, and for this reason it was thought wise to follow the system employed by the Morgan Memorial in placing burlap bags in various dormitory rooms in order that the students might easily be able to donate any offerings to this cause.

The present unemployment situation has resulted in a more wide spread demand for the clothes than has been felt in other years, and for this reason the persons in charge of the drive wish especially to urge all students to help at this time.
