Candidates for Harvard's first boxing team will assemble this afternoon in the new Gymnasium at 2.30 o'clock at which time Coach Conley will meet the men and begin preliminary practice. The meeting will probably take place in the boxing room in the new building.

This winter will be the first time that Harvard will ever have had an organized intercollegiate boxing team, the manly art having been nothing more than an intramural sport until now. Boxing was created a minor sport last February by resolution of the Committee on the Regulation of Athletic Sports. There had been agitation for it for some time, finally culminating in a petition by the Student Council that it be recognized.

Boxing was created a minor sport soon after swimming. When Coach Ulen arrived here as mentor for the natators the authorities decided to make Larry Conley, who had been handling intramural boxing, the head coach. Conley has been instructing more than 250 men in the art of boxing for the last few years. Intramural boxing was always brought to a close by a tournament at the end of the season, open to the entire University.

Both boxing and swimming, Harvard's two new intercollegiate minor sports, have been aided tremendously by the erection of the new indoor athletic building just completed last spring. There is a special room for boxing on the third floor where the team will practice, but the meets with other colleges will undoubtedly be held on the basket ball court on the fourth floor where wooden stands can be erected around the ring.

The University and Freshman boxing teams will clash with Yale on February 14, after having opposed Dartmouth a month previous. Other schedule dates will be announced later.
