Avenging its defeat at the hands of Pennsylvania last year, the University soccer team defeated the Red and Blue Saturday afternoon on the field behind the Business School, 6 to 1.
Brownback, inside right for the visitors, opened the scoring early in the first period when he kicked the ball straight into the net. The Crimson team tightened, however, and Penn was unable to tally again during the game. Early in the second stanza, D. M. Frame '32 evened the score after a scrimmage in front of the Red and Blue net. Before the end of the period, W. D. Vogel ocC. dribbled down the field and counted the second of Harvard's three goals during the second quarter. He again tallied by heading in a rebound off the crossbar.
In the second half, Frame again scored for the Crimson, and in the final period, T. W. Carrigan '31 twice counted with two angle shots that the Penn guard was unable to stop. The Harvard victory was significant, since last year the Red and Blue was rated above the Crimson in the intercollegiate standings.
Next Friday afternoon Harvard will meet the strong Dartmouth team.
The summary: Score--Harvard 6, Pennsylvania 1. Goals--Frame 2, Vogel 2, Carrigan 2, Brownback. Referee--P. R. Carrigan. Time--four 22-min. periods.
