While the 1934 runners were placing second to New Hampshire and defeating Holy Cross, the University harriers won a decisive victory from the Wildcats by the score of 19 to 44 yesterday afternoon.
N. P. Hallowell '32 was the first to cross the line, breaking the tape in 30 mins., 15 secs. Be and Hazen of New Hampshire had been running a close race from the start, but in the last 150 yards, Hallowell managed to secure a lead of about 10 yards, and increased it slightly before the end of the race. After Hazen, the next five men to finish were F. D. Murphy '33, R. P. Wesley '33, J. M. Fox '32, Arthur Foote '33, and B. E. Estes '32. The next few places were taken by alternating Harvard and New Hampshire men. Captain R. C. Aldrich '31 did not run.
The fact that the race was run over a new course caused a great difference in the time of yesterday's and last week's races, which were run in slightly over 24 minutes.
In the 1934 race, an inexperienced Freshman team placed second to New Hampshire and defeated Holy Cross freshmen. Raduazzo of New Hampshire placed first, followed by McManus of Holy Cross, and Blood of New Hampshire. A. B. Hallowell '34, brother of the University winner, was the first Harvard Freshman to cross the line, followed by J. M. Estabrook '34. Other first year runners to score for Harvard were James Parton '34, J. R. Levin '34, and T. A. Robinson '34.
Last week the University harriers opened their season by defeating Holy-Cross, by a perfect score.
