By transferring a shipment of 800 lockers for the new athletic plant to the Newell boathouse the number of lockers in that building will total 1290 by the end of next month, making the boathouse the temporary headquarters for track, baseball and crew, according to plans announced yesterday by the Harvard Athletic Association.
Rowing machines will be hung up under the roof to provide space for these lockers and the 175 which have been brought over from the Weld boathouse, while two men will be on duty 24 hours a day stoking the fires to provide enough hot water to accommodate about 1400 men daily when crew and baseball are in full swing.
Even with two firemen and a reserve boiler-full of hot water it is doubted by Harvard Athletic Association officials if enough water can be supplied to provide each athlete with a three-minute shower. If it proves impossible to do this the difficulty has already been overcome, for it is planned to post a man amongst the bathers whose duty will be to see that no one stays in longer than the maximum limit of half a minute.
