In confirmation of a rumor circulated over two months ago it was announced at University Hall yesterday that Professor P. A. Sorokin, Professor of Sociology, at the University of Minnesota, has become associated with the Faculty of Harvard College. He will assume his new duties at Harvard next September.
Professor Sorokin was born in the Province of Vologda, Russia, and lived in Europe until 1922, when he was exiled from his country because of literature which he had published. He was educated at the Teachers College and the Psycho-Neurological Institute of the University of St. Petersburg. Before coming to the United States he held the position of chairman of the Department of Sociology at the University from which he graduated and spent some time in Czechoslovakia. He lectured at several American Universities before he went to the University of Minnesota to become a member of the Department of Sociology. For a time he has been engaged in a study of rural sociology for the United States Department of Agriculture under the direction of Dr. C. J. Galpin, economist in charge of the Division of Farm Population and Rural Life.
In collaboration with Professor Carl Zimmerman he produced a study entitled "The Principles of Rural-Urban Sociology". His own publications made in this country include: "Social Mobility". "Contemporary Sociological Theories", "Leaves from a Russian Diary", and "The Sociology of Revolution."
