PIERIAN SODALITY TO GIVE ANNUAL TRY-OUTS

The Harvard University orchestra will initiate its one hundred and twenty-second concert season as the Pierian Sodality of 1808 on Tuesday, October 1, in the music building, when the first of two days of the annual fall try-outs will be held. There will be a second night of trials on Wednesday, October 2, and the first rehearsal of the orchestra will be held on Tuesday, October 8. Trials are open to all students in the university, and those interested in the playing of good orchestral music are urged to attend.

The orchestra will this year be under a new policy, and will give a larger number of concerts in and near Cambridge than have been given in the past seasons. In addition to the performances which are always given in Boston and Cambridge, plans are being made for short trips to neighboring colleges and preparatory schools.

It is hoped that the number of players in the orchestra can be larger than in past years. If the large turn-out from the Class of 1932 is any indication, the incoming Freshman Class of 1933 should provide a large number of new musicians.

The conductor for the coming season will be G. W. Woodworth '24, who is also the assistant conductor of the Harvard Glee Club and conductor of the Radcliffe Choral Society. Woodworth is now selecting the music to be used by the orchestra and states that a most interesting repertoire for the concerts will be ready at the start of the season.

Competitions will be conducted for the positions of assistant manager and librarian of the orchestra. All students who intend to become candidates for either of these offices should see the manager at 56 Thayer Hall. The date for the competitions will be announced in an early issue of the CRIMSON
