STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTS HARPER TO PRESIDENT'S CHAIR

In its last meeting of the year the Student Council elected Wallace Russell Harper of Ottumwa, Iowa, to pro-side over its deliberations in the capacity of president during the year 1929-1930. Samuel Lawrence Batchelder '31 of Boston was appointed to take charge of Freshman affairs next year.

William Potter Lage '30 of New York City was elected vice president of the Council, while Bernard Barnes '30 of New Hartford, Conn. and Barrett Hoyt '30 of Brookline will fill the positions of secretary and treasurer respectively.

By a special vote of the Council the positions of treasurer and chairman of the Budget Committee, hitherto held by separate members of the Council are now merged into one office, the duties of preparing the budget falling upon the shoulders of the treasurer.

The Student Council budget system which Hoyt will direct next year, was inaugurated in the fall of 1926 and has proved so successful in the past three years that it has become a fixed institution. The system is intended to facilitate the collection of funds for the various drives which occur during the year, and it is the duty of the Student Council Budget Committee to regulate the distribution of these funds.

In the capacity of chairman of the Student Council Committee on Freshman Affairs, Batchelder will have complete supervision over all the activities of the Class of 1933 until the officers of the Class are elected early in the spring. Under his guidance and with the cooperation of the Freshman proctors, a 1933 executive committee will be established for the temporary management of Freshman affairs, while dormitory committees will be appointed to facilitate the fall activities of the various groups.

The officers who were elected last night will hold their positions until the election of the 1929-1930 Council some time next spring.
