ANNOUNCE APPOINTMENT TO FACULTY POSITIONS

The election of two Professors, and two Associate Professors, and the appointment of six Assistant Professors and one Clinical Professor was announced at University Hall yesterday. All except one of the elections or appointments were promotions within the Harvard Faculty.

Baron Alexander von Stael-Holstein, this year Visiting Lecturer from the National University of Pekin to Harvard, has been elected Professor of Central Asian Philology at Harvard.

John H. Williams, at present Associate Professor of Economics at Harvard, will become Professor of Economics from September 1, 1929.

John Clark Slater, since 1924 Instructor and Assistant Professor in the Physics Department at Harvard, has been elected an Associate Professor of Physics.

Bancroft Beatley, since 1923 Assistant Professor of Education, has been elected Associate Professor of Education. He received his A.B. from Harvard in 1915, and was appointed Instructor in the Graduate School of Education in 1920.

Everard Lawrence Oliver, since 1926 Assistant Professor of Dermatology, has been appointed Clinical Professor of Dermatology.

Gordon Willard Allport, '19, A.M. '21, Ph.D. '22, Sheldon Fellow from 1922 until 1924 at Berlin, Marburg, and Cambridge, England, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Psychology at Harvard from September, 1930. Professor Allport is at present Assistant Professor of Psychology at Dartmouth, where he has held this position since 1926.

Instructor in Social Ethics and Tutor in the Division of Philosophy at Harvard.

Kuang-Ti Mei, who received his S.B. from Northwestern University in 1915, was appointed Assistant Professor in Chinese at Harvard, beginning September, 1929. He has been Instructor in Chinese since 1924.

Fred Colfax Smith, at present Instructor in Education, has been appointed Register of the Graduate School of Education, Lecturer on Vocational Education and member of the Faculty of the Graduate School of Education.
