The strong St. John's preparatory nine, which drubbed the Freshmen earlier this year, went down to defeat a the hands of the Seconds yesterday afternoon after 8 1-2 innings of thrilling baseball. The score was knotted at eight all until the last of the eighth, when three Crimson runs crossed the platter after four bases on balls and a lone hit.
The University Seconds trailed at no time in the course of the game. In both the first and third stanzas, they pushed across a brace of runs, and in the fourth they combined three hits with two errors for four more.
The schoolboys came back in the sixth with five runs on good solid hitting. Six safeties were chalked up by the academicians in that frame. They were, however, held hitless for the remainder of the game, and retired in order in the last two frames.
The batting of H. L. Huxtable '30, with a triple and two singles, was outstanding E. L. Sims '31 sparkled behind the bat.
