HARRISON IS GIVEN TRY IN STROKE SEAT

In the search for a stroke oar with rhythm and stamina to set the pace for the University crew, the first selection by Coach Brown has settled upon B. J. Harrison '29 who pulled a No. 6 oar in he the first shell against Navy and Penn on the Severn last Saturday. Harrison is now taking the place of S. W. Swaim '31 is pace setter for the jayvee eight while I.H. Watts '31 is stroking the first crew.

Nothing Definite Decided

Although the changes are now of a temporary nature and the whole search for the desired man is just beginning Harrison will be given several days at as is new position in order to give the oarsmen and Coach Brown a good opportunity to judge the relative merits of the new oar. Since one or two paddles over a long distance may be in order this week, Harrison will undoubtedly prove his worth within the next few days. He is tall, heavy, and possessed of a great deal of racing experience but whether or not he will shape up to the requirements for a good stroke oar whether Gains to be seen. In the short stretches he sends his crew along with about the same amount of form as the first eight cut the crucial test which comes in raising the beat is still to be met.

Swaim Rowing at Two

He and Watts have switched positions several times with apparently little difference as a result while Swaim has yet to be tried out against him. The later is now rowing at No. 2 in the first boat and C. McK. Norton '29, who formerly rowed in this seat, is at six. F. A. Clark '29 is still at No. 4 in the first boat where he has been for the past week.

The oarsmen may have several paddles of about four miles between now and next Wednesday. They will be given a week on the last three days of next week prior to their departure for Red Cop on June 2.
