Seven fellowships to be awarded in six departments of the University were announced yesterday. At the same time it was also announced that Professor James Haughton Woods '87 of the Department of Philosophy would be on a leave of absence for the first half of 1929-30. He has been invited by the Harvard-Yenching Institute to go on a mission to China.
Leo Wolman, of New York City, since 1919 a member of the faculty of the School for Social Research, author of several books on trade unionism, and member of many U. S. Commissions on industrial relations, unemployment, and kindred subjects, comes to Harvard for the second half of 1929-30 as Wertheim Fellow and lecturer on economics.
Pierre Camaillard, at present a professor in the Lycee of Bordeaux, will hold the Victor Emmanuel Chapman Memorial Followship for the year 1929-30.'
James F. Davidson, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, at present the Brandeis Research Fellow in the Harvard Law School, will next year hold a Research Fellowship in Administrative Law. Mr. Davidson received his degree of Master of Laws at Harvard in 1924. At the same time it was announced that Wilbur G. Katz, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, had been appointed to a Faculty Scholarship at the Harvard Law School.
A Sheldon Fellowship in History for the year 1929-30 has been awarded to Merrill Ten Broeck Spalding '20, of Watertown, and will enable him to travel abroad.
Dr. Elizabeth P. Sanders, of Baltimore, Maryland will hold the Public Health Fellowship, during the year 1929-30 for the second time. A Shady Hill Research Fellowship in Fine Arts has been awarded to Benjamin Rowland Jr. '28, of Southampton, Pennsylvania, at present a student in the Department of Fine Arts.
