Strings Attached: How Harvard’s Wealthiest Alumni Are Reshaping University Giving
Annapolis, May 17--With three changes in the University boat from last Saturday's seating, including a swapping of stroke men with the jayvees, the Crimsons oarsmen took two five mile rows this morning and afternoon in preparation for racing Navy and Pennsylvania here on the Severn tomorrow.
Following the day's workout it was decided by Coach Brown and his charges to let Watts stroke the first crew tomorrow, as he has been doing all this week. Captain Clark will be at No. 4, with Harrison taking his old berth. Penn and Navy, like Harvard, have been the underdogs in their races so far this season. Coach Glendon's midshipmen are going to the starting line with small comfort in having defeated Syracuse a week ago, for they have previously lost to Tech and Columbia. The Quaker staters have also matched up against the season's best crews, finishing last in regattas with Columbia and Yale, and Columbia and Princeton.
The Harvard crews will be seated as follows:
First University--Stroke, P.H. Watts '31; 7, W.T. Emmet '29; 6, B.J. Harrison '29; 5, Allerton Cushman '29; 4, F.A. Clark '29; 3, L.W. Dickey '30; 2, C. McK. Norton '29; bow, James Lawrence, Jr. '29; cox, L.L. Wadsworth '30.
Second University--Stroke, S.W. Swaim '31; 7, M.M. Johnson '31; 6, R.I. McKesson '31; 5, A.B. Rood '31; 4, A.N. Webster '31; 3, C.E. Mason '30; 2, M.R. Brownell '30; bow, C.N. Comstock '30; cox, E.L. Belisle '31.
