For the first time since 1912 Harvard will not enter this year the annual triangular debate with Yale and Princeton. It was announced last night by J.M. Swigert '30, retiring president of the Debating Council. Failure to arrange a date was the reason given for the move. It was also stated that a graduate advisory committee will be appointed to confer with the Debating Council during the coming year.
According to Swigert the dropping of the Yale-Princeton meeting is not connected with the withdrawal last Friday of the Council from the Intercollegiate Debating League, and it was further stated that Harvard would meet both colleges on the rostrum in 1930.
The graduate committee, it was announced, will have a two-fold purpose, to bolster up the ailing financial status of the Council, and to aid in the experimental innovations which the Harvard teams are attempting: The Council has at present a deficit of $100.
