The seating of the University crew, which opens the season against Massachusetts Institute of Technology Saturday, may be changed in one position before the race, according to a statement by Coach E. J. Brown '96 yesterday. Since the selection of the first crew a week ago there has been one major shift, that of Allerton Cushman '29 to No. 5 in the first boat to replace M. M. Johnson '31 who is now rowing No. 5 in the Jayvees.
During the past few days there have been several temporary shifts in the seating of the crews but the advancement of Cushman is the only permanent one. It is not known what further change Coach Brown has under consideration and it would not be surprising if he did not make it until after the opening race.
Harrison Temporarily Out
B. J. Harrison '29 who has been rowing at six in the second crew is temporarily disabled with an injured hand but present indications are that he will be on hand before Saturday. His place was taken in yesterday's practice by E. L. Millard '31. Practice for the next few days will consist of separate work-outs for the crews with the possible exception of a race which may be held today.
The crews were somewhat handicapped Monday and yesterday by the high winds but they have taken long rows and practice starts. There has been a visible improvement in both boats this week for the oarsmen have been working into smooth combinations.
The seating of the first crew is as follows:
Stroke, S. W. Swaim '31: 7, W. T. Emmett '29: 6. F. A. Clark '29; 5, Allerton Cushman '29; 4. A. N. Webster '31; 3. L. E. Dickey '30; 2. C. MeK. Norton '29: bow, James Lawrence, Jr. '29.
