Strings Attached: How Harvard’s Wealthiest Alumni Are Reshaping University Giving
Three Harvard alumni, as well as three men from other institutions who are or will be studying in the Graduate Schools of the University, are numbered among the recipients of the fine arts scholarships awarded for the year 1929, 30 by the Carnage Corporation of New York City, it was announced yesterday.
These annual grants have been made by the organization since 1925, for the purpose of increasing the number of qualified college and university teachers in the arts. The stipend ranges from $1200 for first-year graduate students to $2000 for advanced work abroad.
Harvard is mentioned prominently in the awards. T. C. Howe '26, who has been doing graduate work here for the last three years, has been given a scholarship to continue his work. M. C. Ross '27, who carried on advanced studies here during 1927 and 1928, is commissioned to continue them in Europe. Benjamin Rowland Jr. '28, at work here now, will carry on for another year.
