Mardulier Wins Unexpected Third in Hurdles--Dunlap Ties for Third in Pole Vault

With Harvard taking fifth place in the eighth annual I. C. A. A. A. A. meet, New York University won its first championship in the indoor classic mainly because of the brilliant performance of Phil Edwards, its star runner, at the 102nd Regiment Armory in New York, Saturday night.

N. Y. U. scored 25 points to win with Georgetown second with 22.25 points and Pennsylvania and Cornell third and fourth with 21.25 and 19.5 respectively. Harvard gained 13.5.

In the 70-yard high hurdles, Harvard grabbed an unexpected third when F. J. Mardulier '30 nosed out Heasley and Young of Cornell in a race in which Collier of Brown, the winner, fell short of equalling record time by one-fifth of a second.

In the one-mile relay the strong Harvard team lost first place to the Dartmouth quartet after leading for the first two legs of the race. Andrews in third place and Captain Swope as anchor man won this victory for the Hanoverians approaching the record by three-fifths of a second. In this event Harvard was represented by V. L. Hennessey '30, Vernon Munroe '31, F. E. Cummings '30, G. A. Tupper '29. In the two-mile relay, the University team did not place.

The pole vault was the cause of much excitement when Sturdy, Yale's champion, and Berlinger of Pennsylvania both broke the intercollegiate record beating by far the mark made by C. E. Dunlap '30, Colyer of Cornell, and Pond and Cone of Yale who were in a quadrangular tie for third.

Mile run--Won by Hickey (N. Y. U.), Edwards (N. Y. U.), second; Offenhauser (Penn State), third; Montgomery (C. of P.), fourth; Ritchie (U. of P.), fifth. Time--4 min., 20 sec.

Mile relay--Won by Dartmouth; Harvard, second; Syracuse, third; Yale, fourth; Colgate, fifth. Time-- 3 min., 22 sec.

Two-mile relay--Won by N. Y. U.; Bates, second; Georgetown, third; Princeton, fourth; Pennsylvania, fifth. Time--7 min., 52 sec.

Two-mile run--Won by Hagen (Columbia); Lovering (Cornell), second; Eisinger (Penn State), third; Lerner (N. Y. U.), fourth; J. L. Reid '29, fifth. Time--9 min., 31 sec.

Running broad jump--Won by Furth (N. Y. U.); Newkirk (U. of Penn), second; Berlinger (Pennsylvania), third; Wildermuth (Georgetown), fourth; Donner (Dartmouth), fifth. Distance--22 ft., 5 1-4 in.

Pole vault--Won by Sturdy (Yale); Berlinger (Pennsylvania), second; tie for third between C. E. Dunlap '30, Collyer (Cornell), Pond (Yale), and Cone (Yale). Distance--13 ft., 7 3-4 in. (New intercollegiate record.)

Running high jump--Tie for first between Pump (Colgate) and Hedges (Princeton); Maynard (Dartmouth), third; tie for fourth between Russell (Brown), Wolf (Yale), Sexton (Georgetown), Burlinger (Pennsylvania). Distance--6 ft., 3 in.

Shot put--Won by Anderson (Cornell); Adelman (Georgetown), second; Sexton (Georgetown), third; Berlinger (Pennsylvania), fourth; Levy (Cornell), fifth. Distance--47 ft. 7 3-4 in.

35-pound weight--Won by Sexton (Georgetown); Weis (Cornell), second; Steiner (Pennsylvania), third; T. H. Alcock '29, fourth; Worden (Cornell), fifth. Distance--49 ft., 6 1-4 in.
