GIDDENS WILL LEAD NEXT SEASON'S SIX

Outlook for 1929-30 Campaign Better Than Usual--Ranks Little Weakened by Graduation

Francis Rene Galbraith Giddens '30, of Ottawa, Canada, was elected captain of the University hockey team for next winter at a meeting of the letter men yesterday afternoon.

During the past two seasons, Giddens has filled the right wing position on the first Harvard forward line and his performances have marked him as one of the most outstanding players of Crimson ice history. Well grounded in the Canadian style of play, the captain-elect has proved to be equally efficient on the offensive and defensive. He first sprang into the limelight last year when his covering of Palmer, Yale ace, was one of the main reasons for his team's victories over the Blue in the 1928 series. In the first game against the Elis this last season, he scored both the goals which spelled defeat for the New Haven team. During the campaign just ended, Giddens drove in a total of 18 tallies to lead the Harvard scoring parade.

Few Graduate

The ranks of the University skaters will be depleted by the graduation of Captain John Tudor '29, left wing, and of three goalies, O. P. Jackson '29, H. H. Newell '29, and W. L. Elkins '29. It is not yet certain whether the Bigelows, twin-stars of the defense, will return next season or not. With the remainder of the squad intact and reinforced by several members of this year's powerful Freshman sextet, hopes for another strong Harvard team are brighter than usual.
