The Graduate School of Education announced the names of those who would receive the four scholarships given by that department for the year 1927-28, on Saturday. The scholarships are the Austin Scholarships for Teachers, Faculty Scholarships, University Scholarships, and the Phi Delta Kappa Scholarship.

The recipients of the Austin Scholarships for Teachers are: Barnard Cunliffe, of Detroit, Michigan; Donald Dewitt Durrell, of Ames, Iowa; and Harold Bradford Foye, of Dorchester. Cunliffe received his A.B. degree from the University of Michigan in 1916, and his Ed. M. degree from Harvard in 1925. Durrell is a graduate of State University of Iowa in the Class of 1926. Foye received his B.B.A. degree from Boston University in 1923, and his Ed.M. degree from Harvard in 1926.

Five Get Faculty Scholarships

Faculty Scholarships were awarded to Herman Adelbert Bryant, of Petersham; Arthur Francis Chaisson, of St. John, New Brunswick; Edmund Cortez, of Wind Gap, Pennsylvania; Giovanni Ippolito Giardini, of New Castle, Pensylvania, and Roger Wellington Holmes, of Brooklyn, New York.

Bryant graduated from Bates College in 1919, where he received an A.B. degree. Chaisson received both the S.B. and the A.M. degrees at St. Francis Xavier College, the former in 1924 and the latter in 1925. Cortez received his A.B. from Taylor University in 1923, his B.D. from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1925, and his A.M. degree from Columbia University in 1926. Giardini is a member of the Class of 1921 at the University of Pittsburgh, and received his S.M. degree there in 1922. Holmes graduated from Harvard with the Class of 1926.

University Scholarships Awarded

Those receiving the University Scholarships were Forest Duane Comfort, of Cambridge; Herbert Graham Espy, of Oxford, California; Anna Forward Faull, of Cambridge; Robert Erwie McConnell, of Brookings, South Dakota; and Waldemar Eric Metzenthin, of Denton, Texas.

Receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from Pennsylvania Colege in 1922, Comfort became a Master of Arts at Haverford College in 1926. Espy graduated in 1920 with an A.B. degree from Occidental College. Miss Faull is a member of the Class of 1927 at Radcliffe. McConnell received an S.B. from Montana State College in 1921, and an S.M. from the University of Wisconsin in 1923. Metzenthin became a Bachelor of Arts at Franklin and Marshall College in 1900 and a Master of Arts at Columbia University in 1905.

The Phi Delta Kappa Scholarship was awareded to Herman Adelbert Bryant, of the Class of 1919 at Bates, who received also a Faculty Scholarship.

All of these appointments for Scholarships are of one year duration. They are made annually, and carry stipends ranging from $250 to $600, and are awarded for the promotion of investigation and research work in educational fields.

The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences also announced the appointment of the recipients of a number of Traveling Fellowships, and Resident Fellowships and Scholarships. From 25 Travelling and Resident Fellowships stipends were awarded to 19 students and assistants: and 105 men were given stipends from 19 scholarships. These appointments for Fellowships and Scholarships are of one year duration.

The recipients of these awards represent nearly every large university in the United States and many of them are members of the Class of 1927 in their respective colleges. Several are now teaching or doing research work.
