As a result of try-outs held yesterday, J. E. Willard '30, Norman Winer '29, and H. A. Wolff '29 have been chosen to represent Harvard in the debate scheduled with Pennsylvania University for February 23, and H. C. Friend '31, G. W. Harrington '30, and S. G. Silverman '30 to debate against Williams College on February 25 at Williamstown. The topic for both of these debates is: "Resolved, That this house approves the Baumes Law of New York State"; Harvard will uphold the affirmative side of this question in the first debate, and the negative side in the second.

The men selected to participate in these contests were chosen from a group of about fifteen students who reported for the trials. Each team, however, will consist of only two men; and consequently two of these candidates will be appointed alternates. Active preparation for the debates will start today.

The Pennsylvania and Williams debates, together with a debate between these two institutions, constitute the second round of the Eastern Intercollegiate Debating League competition. Harvard won first place in this competition last year; and this season has to its credit a default by Vassar and a victory over Amherst. Men who participate in the coming contests will be eligible for the southern and western trips to be taken by the debating team.

At trials held on Wednesday C. H. Burgess '31, D. I. Cooke '31, D. L. Landy '30, and L. M. Wallstein '30 were selected to oppose Marquette University in a debate next Wednesday.
