Six concerts have been definitely scheduled for the Pierian Sodality, with the first held next Sunday evening at 7.30 o'clock in the living room of the Harvard Union according to an announcement made yesterday.
On February 26, a concert followed by dancing will be presented at Brattle Hall; the orchestra will perform with a soloist at the Harvard Club of Boston on March 9; on April 1, another soloist will aid the Sodality in its concert at Paine Hall; and on April 28, a program will be given at the Boston Public Library. Although the date has not yet been decided, a performance followed by a dance will be given at Wellesley, in cooperation with the Wellesley Glee Club. Negotiations are being carried on with Milton Academy, Groton School, St. Mark's School, and Middlesex, to arrange for presentations.
An important change effected this year in the working of the Pierian Sodality now makes eligible for election to the society all men who have attended rehearsals and concerts steadily for two consecutive half-years. According to this plan, voting will be determined solely upon the attendance records of the players, so that membership in the society will henceforth be on the same basis as that of the Glee Club.
Sunday's program will include Handel's
Overture to the Ode for St. Cecelia's Day, for strings and oboes, based on the poem by Dryden. This will be followed by eight of Bach's dances from the suite in B minor, for strings and flutes. Rondeau, Sarabande, Bouree I, Bouree II, Polonaise, Double, Minuet, and Badinarie. The concluding number on the program will be three movements from the Symphony number two, in D. by Hadyn: Adagio-Allegro; Menuetto Trio; Allegro spirituoso.
