QUINTET DEFEATS M. I. T. IN CLOSE LIVELY STRUGGLE

Nets 12 Points for Highest Total of Evening--Freshmen Down Tech Cubs 43 to 28

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Playing much the same game as it displayed last Friday against B. U., the Harvard basketball team last night gave the M. I. T. quintet its first setback of the season by a 33 to 24 score.

As before the game was fast all through, both teams playing a lively offense. The Harvard players were prone to take shots from the middle of the floor, again, and they netted many of their points by accurate shooting in this way.

The Engineers won the tap-off, but it was for Harvard, represented by T. I. Nido '30 to score the first basket. From the start to the half, the two teams shared the honors with even playing. Harvard continually took the ball halfway up the court and tried for a goal. M. I. T. showed considerable inaccuracy for some time as shot after shot bounced off the back board or dropped off the edge of the basket, but after a time Technology tightened up and took the lead 7 to 4. A rally on the part of the Crimson netted two goals and left the score 8 to 7 as time-out was taken. Harvard was still in the lead at the half with a 13 to 10 score.

Harvard Scores First

From the very start of the second period, the Crimson displayed a much faster offense, and in a short time had rolled the score up to 26-13. With a good lead, Coach Wachter now sent in four new men, and shortly afterwards, the game ended with Harvard in the lead 33 to 24.

Captain H. T. Wenner '30 led the scoring for the evening with 12 points to his credit. Nee was the high-scorer for M. I. T. The Harvard team worked well together, and the prospects for a successful season run high.
