Harvard's hockey campaign will be officially launched tonight when the Crimson sextet skates out on the Arena ice to tackle the Boston University Terriers in the opening game of the season. The contest is due to start at 8.15 o'clock.
Despite the fact that it is the initial game for Coach Stubbs' charges they are favored to come out on the long end of the score. B. U. has played three games already and has taken as many defeats. The first two of these setbacks came at the hands of two of New England's strongest hockey aggregations, the University Club and Yale, but the third was a 3 to 1 drubbing by M. I. T. The Terriers are admittedly weak at goal and this has been their handicap in all three games.
Four Veterans Starting
In the starting lineup tonight Harvard will have four veterans from last year and two newcomers.
Captain Putnam and Lakin at center and right wing respectively, and Garrison and Batchelder at defense are the four stars of last year who are opening tonight. Wood, the only Sophomore in the starting lineup is Coach Stubbs' choice for left wing. Ellis won out over four other competitors at goal and will start in the cage tonight.
The teams have not waived the six substitute rule for early games this year, and as a result only 12 Crimson men will don jerseys tonight. Draper and Cunningham will be the reserve goalie and defense man respectively in tonight's clash. Holbrook will probably be at center in the second forward line with Cross at one wing and Stubbs and Harding alternating at the other.
Lombard Dangerous
Lombard, Terrier left wing is the man that the Crimson defense will have to watch tonight. His speedy play and accurate shooting make him one of the most dangerous wings in Boston hockey circles. He saved his team from a complete rout by the University Club by sending the puck past the goalie three times unassisted.
Harvard will get its real test Friday night when it plays this same University Club at the Arena. The Crimson will have to face such stars as the Bigelow twins, John Chase, former Crimson captain, and Ted Learned, crack goalie, in this encounter.
