Harvard Still On Track To Reach Fossil Fuel-Neutral Status by 2026, Sustainability Report Finds
Charles J. Whiteside, latest addition to the Harvard crew coaching staff, is scheduled to arrive in Boston this morning. The former Syracuse Freshman rowing mentor will come to Cambridge immediately for a conference with W. J. Bingham '16, director of athletics.
No intimation as to the future status of the new coach could be gleaned last night. Bingham stated to the CRIMSON that Whiteside's position at present is merely as a member of the coaching staff. He admitted that if matters worked out to the satisfaction of the parties concerned, there was a strong probability that Whiteside would later take over the position left vacant by the recent resignation of E. J. Brown '96, former head coach.
Will Be Shown Naval Base
Whiteside will be shown over the Harvard naval base, probably this afternoon, by various coaches and undergraduate oarsmen. There will be no formal meeting of crew men, however, inasmuch as the sport will not be formally organized until after the mid-year examination period.
When asked if Whiteside would be given any voice in the selection of a coaching staff for the coming year, Bingham said that no changes or additions to the present group were being contemplated at the present time. He intimated that it would be as impossible for him as for any one else to reveal any of his plans on the crew situation, inasmuch as he had made absolutely no decisions to date.
