Medical and Dental School Seniors to Hold Regular Office Hours for Diagnosing

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Medical and dental examination of Boston settlement house children is to be provided in the near future by the Phillips Brooks House Association, it was announced yesterday by J. H. Lane IG. B., graduate secretary of that organization. The work will be undertaken by students of the Medical and Dental Schools and will consist of diagnostic examination only.

Two Seniors, one from the Medical and one from the Dental School, will hold "fellowships" to do this work. A nominal remuneration will be given to these men in return for their time.

In outlining the plan, Lane explained that reports of the ordinary school examiners are not obtainable by parents. As a result, children physically deficient have been allowed to engage in athletics and their health has in many cases been permanently impaired. To remove this danger, the Phillips Brooks House has undertaken to assure for all children in the care of the settlement houses, examinations, the diagnoses of which will be placed in the hands of the parents with recommendations for treatment. The secretaries of the settlement houses will endeavor to have attended all cases requiring medical or dental attention.
