The proposal for a Cambridge School of the Drama recently sponsored by a New York committee of Harvard graduates interested in the theatre was brought to the attention of Harvard University by Maurice Wertheim '06 representing this committee in a visit yesterday to University Hall. He conveyed to the University the desire of the committee to work in close harmony with the administration, even though the proposed activity is to be extra-curriculum. The University in turn assured him of its cooperation, and a basis of admission requirements satisfactory to the University is being worked out. Plans for definite work beginning in February are being prepared by the New York committee and will be announced in the course of the next few weeks.
The policy of the school will be to strike a balance between the academic concepts on the one hand and professional ideas on the other. Both men and women will be accepted as candidates for the course. There will be a nominal fee required, the amount to be announced later by the managing committee.
At the meeting over a week ago, a sub-committee was appointed to arrange for the details of organization. No definite announcements have been made as yet as to what this committee has accomplished, although it is known that they are considering the appointment of instructors and the other details of the course. All of these facts are to be made public later, after the broader aspects of the school have been defined and adopted.
