Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
Although the Freshman team opened its season Saturday with a 6 to 0 defeat at the hands of Andover, there is no reason to believe that Coach French's proteges, will not hit their stride before long and uphold the reputation of Harvard's first-year teams. It was clearly a lack of organization, due to the brevity of the practice period, which enabled the schoolboys to pin a defeat on the Crimson.
In the three days that Coach French had his first team together he concentrated on one backfield. When, just before game time it was disclosed that Gibson, fullback, was ineligible and Wells, quarterback, had developed a bad knee, it was hard to make up a smooth working backfield. This probably accounts for the big weakness in pass defense shown by the Freshmen.
Andover's Passing Effective
Andover's score came as the direct result of two forward passes. Having been stopped dead on the one yard line in the opening period, the schoolboys early in the second canto, worked back to the 35-yard stripe. Here two passes, Brown to Kimball and Keesling to Broaca coupled with a seven yard run by the latter put the pigskin across the goal. Harvard worked some pretty laterals in the fourth period but could not get beyond the 22-yard stripe.
That the Freshman forward wall has a world of power, is shown by the fact that the Andover line bucks totaled less than twelve for a gain of practically nothing.
The summary: Score--Andover 6, Harvard 1933 0, Touchdown--Broaca, Referce W. R. Higgins, Umpire Steve Maboney, Field Judge--Edward Pigeon. Head Linesman--Nicholas Callahan. Time Four 10 minute periods.
