H. W. Clark '23, Assistant Director of Athletics in the University, and Supervisor of courses in athletic coaching in the Summer School, announced yesterday that courses especially designed to aid coaches of high school, preparatory school and small college teams in dealing with the theory and practice of many sports will be offered for the first time by the Harvard Summer School this year. Hitherto the Department of Physical Education has offered such courses on a more limited scale, but this season will give fully rounded courses equal to those offered by other schools.

Coaches of the University teams will have charge of these courses, assisted by men prominent in athletic work in other colleges. E. L. Casey '20, coach of the Freshman football team for the past three years, will be in charge of the course on the theory and practice of football. He will be assisted in the work by Jack McAuliffe Physical Director at Catholic University, and former line coach under Jesse Hawley at Dartmouth. J. L. Knox '98, coach of the University second football team, and chief of the scouting staff will give supplementary lectures, while V. P. Kennard '09, who has had charge of the kickers on the University eleven will lecture on this branch of the sport.

The course in track work which will not open until July 29, continuing then until the end of the Summer School term, will be under the supervision of E. L. Farrell, coach of the University track team, and member of the Olympic coaching staff. E. A. Wachter, University basketball coach will give a three weeks course in basketball, lasting from July 8 to July 26.

Larry Conley, who is in charge of the boxing in the University will be in charge of a course in that sport, the instruction period extending from July 8 to 26, while H. C. Cowles will, as in former years, give instruction in tennis and squash throughout the full six weeks period of the Summer School term.
