FLYING CLUB PURCHASES NEW TRAVEL AIR PLANE

After giving a year of successful service to the members of the Harvard Flying Club and their guests, the Club Travel Air plane has been turned in for a new and later model equipped with a Curtiss OXX 6 motor.

The new Travel Air plane was successfully flown to Cambridge from Wichita, Kansas, by W. N. Bump '29 and Frank Sproul '29, Flying Club pilots, a few weeks ago, and now is in action daily flying to and from the Boston Airport. The trip east was executed with no trouble, and without accident, the only delay being a day's stop at Schenectady caused by the wind drifts resulting from the Atlantic seacoast storm.

At the first meeting of the Club this fall, held Tuesday night, the flying staff for the fall term was organized. It was announced following this meeting that Frederick Ames '27 has been elected honorary president of the organization. At the same time the resignation of President Bump was announced. Bump was president of the Club for a term of one year and his resignation will take effect immediately. Accordingly, Vice-President R. B. Bell '30 was appointed to fill the vacancy. Bump will continue to be active in the Club's affairs.

Other business transacted at the same time consisted of the organization of a drive for the Hangar Fund. Members of the Club hope to so organize the fund as to allow for the construction of the hangar next spring. Likewise, plans were discussed for the sending of the ship to the Loening Intercollegiate Air meet at New York, to be held on December 1. Attendance at this meet will mark the climax of the fall activity of the Club.

The fall Flying Club competition will get under way with a meeting of candidates at a place to be announced later, next Tuesday evening. This competition will be open to all members of the University and will be of a month's duration. A large number of men are expected to report.

At the close of the fall competition approximately 15 new members will be selected from the candidates, according to the quantity and quality of the candidates reporting.
